Mountain Pointe is two wins away from defending its state badminton title.

The Pride won both of their matches on Monday to advance to Wednesday's semifinals.

Desert Vista, the 10th seed, lost 5-4 to No. 7 Perry in the first round to have its season end.

Third-seeded Mountain Pointe will face No. 2 Mountain Ridge at 6:30 p.m. at Sunnyslope High in the semifinals.

The other semifinal pits No. 1 Xavier vs. No. 4 Chandler.

The Pride beat No. 14 Red Mountain 5-1 in the first round and defeated No. 6 Hamilton, 5-3, in the quarterfinals.
