Baseball: Pride drops two games at NHSI

Mountain Pointe has been unable to continue its winnings ways at the   the National High School Invitational in North Carolina on Thursday.

After opening the tournament with a 4-0 win on Wednesday, the Pride (10-4) lost in the quarterfinals and their first consolation game later in the day.

In the quarterfinal game, the Pride took a 1-0 lead but Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.) won 8-4 after the Mountain Pointe pitching staff walked seven batters.

Pride senior shortstop Cole Tucker got the scoring started in the bottom of the first. After Tucker recognized the Regis right fielder's laying back on the ball hit through the infield, Tucker slid into second base just ahead of the throw for a double.

Tucker later scored when Regis shortstop Max George dropped a pop up by the Pride's Christian Bitar.

In the second game, Pride left-hander Garvin Alston threw give scoreless innings before Milton High School out of Georgia rallied in the bottom of the sixth to earn a 2-1 victory.

Milton was able to get two runs off the Pride bullpen by starting its half of the sixth with a double and a single followed by a series of bunts to get ahead 2-1.

Mountain Pointe went down in order in the top of the seventh.  With rain expected Friday afternoon their Friday game with TC Roberson Asheville, N.C. had been moved to 9:45 a.m.
