Desert Vista athletic director TJ Snyder said via text on Thursday that the school will hire Jaysie Chambers Sheppard, pending board approval, as its new girls basketball coach.
Chambers Sheppard, who is originally from San Jose, played for four years at the University of Illinois at Chicago before playing briefly with the Mercury and overseas as a forward for a total of seven years.
She is a co-owner of a 501(c)3 ministry called TPA HOOPS (Today Pro Athletes Helping Others Obtain Personal Salvation).
Chambers Sheppard is also the published author of “The Slave Mind and The Mind of God: Rebuilding Our Relationships Within the African American Home.”
She is taking over for Rachel Proudfoot, who resigned after four successful seasons in order to take care of an ailing loved one.
