The Desert Vista girls tennis is getting oh so close.

For the second time in three years, the Thunder advanced to the semifinals but were unable to take that final step.

Desert Vista, the sixth seed, lost 5-4 to No. 10 Chaparral on Friday at Scottsdale Ranch and Tennis Center.

The match was tied at 4-4, but the Thunder came up short in the No. 3 doubles.

It was the same score of the regular season match up between the two teams as Chaparral plays No. 1 Xavier for the title on Saturday at Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale at 11 a.m.

The good news is the Thunder lose only one player from their top six due to graduation.

"It was a great year," Thunder coach Angel Singer said.
