Often, when my kids are squabbling over who gets a turn on the iPad, I have one of those mama moments. You know, where I am compelled to point out their bounty — how blessed we are to even own such a luxury. I’m always in search of those “teachable moments,” to inspire in them an attitude of gratitude. So parents, if you’re sighing, “I can relate —” I come bearing good news. There is no better place to experience one of those moments than a little warehouse at Warner Road and Priest Drive — Feed My Starving Children (FMSC).
You ever hear the saying, “This is about as much fun as watching snails race?” Well “Turbo,” the latest flick from DreamWorks Animation, is literally about a racing snail. It’s also about as fascinating as watching paint dry or watching grass grow. Sitting in the theater, you never feel like you’re observing an animated feature from the edgy, satirical, pop-culture savvy folks at DreamWorks. You feel like you’re watching a cartoon with a thin premise on Nickelodeon. In other words, save your time, save your money, and stream it for the kids when it’s on Netflix in several months.
Q: I’m going to various countries in Europe this summer and can’t figure out the best way to use my smartphone. Any suggestions? — Kim
When it comes to food and drink pairings, most of us tend to be pretty old school. As in, red with beef, white with fish.
Darius the Rottweiler has a wiggle butt, leans on just about any body part he can find, loves to swim, is a very laid back, easygoing pal. He also knows some commands, listens very well, rides great in the car, likes to play with toys and while Darius likes to snuggle at night he is not overly affectionate. He was abandoned by his previous owners and while that might generally be a bad thing, we think it was a good thing. You see, Darius was not in the best shape when we saved him from the kill list. He had a skin infection along his back, was very skinny, and lacked muscle tone. Additionally, his previous owners never took care of torn ACLs on his back legs and he had hip issues. Darius gets around very well — running around the yard and the house with much vigor, wrestling with his canine foster sister who is much younger and very relentless in her play. He has already gained muscle tone and strength in his legs and they don’t slow him down.

Aaron Post and his team at Bar Vision in Phoenix produce innovative bar technology — devices that track pouring measurements to prevent bartenders from over pouring. They design products that improve “pour profits” rather than detect “pour loss.”
