Q: Where are you from and what did you do before opening your business?

A: Farm girl from South Dakota. I'm a born entrepreneur and business person. I graduated from Arizona State University and spent many years working for Price Waterhouse Coopers doing audits and business consulting where I learned about every type of business and industry I could. My last 10 years before opening my Derma Health Institute locations were spent at NetPro, an international software development company in Phoenix. I was the president and CEO.

Q: Why did you open your business in Ahwatukee?

A: Ahwatukee is a close-knit community and my research told me that Ahwatukee needed to have its own clinic. This clinic is a little different in that it's more of a boutique. Similar to many of the businesses in the Ahwatukee area where it's so friendly and down-home, yet very modern and hip.

Q: How did you get the idea to open your business?

A: I wanted to do something that I was really passionate about. I love health, fitness and natural, non-invasive ways that make you look and feel better. We're all living longer and want to look as good as we feel. At the time I opened five years ago, medical lasers were just taking off and it was the perfect segway into anti-aging aesthetic medicine.

Q: What type of merchandise/services do you sell?

A: Aesthetic and anti-aging services to make you look and feel your best. One aspect is medical laser skin care services to improve the tone, texture and tightness of your skin, acne services for adults and teens, laser hair removal, laser vein removal, physician-supervised weight-loss and nutritional plans, natural hormone replacement therapy and food allergy testing.

Q: What does your business offer that no one else does?

A: We are a physician-based business and we pride ourselves in educating and treating the whole person with a caring and warm atmosphere. We are all about customer service. We offer many complimentary seminars each month on different health-related subjects, such as acne or hormone and food allergy seminars. We also carry an extensive inventory of lasers. We buy the best laser for each procedure rather than a 3-in-1 that claims to be a be-all, do-all.

Q: How have residents of the community responded to your business?

A: In a way we didn't expect. Rather than calling from our ads, most are just dropping by to see us. It's so cool and out of the ordinary. Ahwatukee is unique in that way.

Q: What does your business have in store for the future?

A: Further expansion in anti-aging medicine. The real key to having your skin look great is ensuring you're eating the right foods and that your hormones are balanced and healthy. As always, we continue to add the best lasers as they come available on the market.

Q: Anything else you want the community to know about you or your business?

A: We can't wait to meet each one of you! We care and we're here for the long-term. And we're fun! We invite you to visit our Web site, dhiskin.com, for upcoming seminar dates and to get to know us a little better. And please continue stopping by! Our grand opening is March 3, from 2 to 7 p.m.
