Staff and teachers at Summit School of Ahwatukee take pride in fostering academic excellence and a love of learning through a liberal arts education.

The school opened in 2001 and has since grown to serve more than 340 preschool through eighth-grade students.

Summit aims to offer a low student-teacher ratio, implement cooperative learning, and integrate foreign language, science, music, art, technology, and physical education into its curriculum.

“We have a very comprehensive program,” said Head of Schools Pat O’Brien. “The most important thing is to have highly qualified teachers that build relationships with students.”

Grace Garden Christian Preschool has been part of the Ahwatukee community for the past nine years, giving each of its students a Christian-based curriculum.

The school currently houses 100 students from the ages of 6 weeks old to 6 years old, and provides two meals and a snack for the day.

Director Catherine Thomson said teachers incorporate Bible lessons throughout the day within their curriculum.

“We try to teach a lot of the children what honesty is, what respect is and the children have a great learning experience with us,” she said. “We also do enrichment classes here, where teachers will go to each classroom so the kids get comfortable with all the teachers in the school.”

During the enrichment classes, teachers instruct a class in their areas of expertise, such as Spanish or Mandarin, math, science and yoga.

During the summer break, Grace Garden Christian Preschool also offers different courses for students who are struggling with their academics.
