Being fairly new to the preschool scene, Magical Journey Learning Center has been offering the Ahwatukee community a more intimate schooling experience with its small-classroom setting.

The school, which is in its second year of completion, currently houses 32 students in grade levels pre-kindergarten through preschool.

Both instructors, Julie Fischer and Michelle Willis, have an immense resume when it comes to education, having more than 20 years of experience teaching at the elementary level.

Fischer believes what separates Magical Journey Learning Center apart from others is how the students work in smaller groups, which gives both instructors the ability to focus more on each of their students.

The school also encompasses community service with its “Lend a Hand” program, where each week students are involved with different community service opportunities.

“We just think that goes to developing that whole social and emotional piece that will hopefully lay a foundation for them for life,” Fischer said.

Maysa Fini, director of A Step Ahead Preschool, poses with students on Wednesday, Aug. 20.

Since 1998, A Step Ahead Preschool in Ahwatukee has been teaching its students through Montessori and traditional teaching methods.

The school houses nearly 60 students from 4-week-olds to 5-year-olds.

Director Maysa Fini said the school focuses on giving its students Montessori and traditional learning experiences to help them transition into the school system.

“Almost all of our graduates end up going to a public school, and the public school is not Montessori,” she said. “For us, we have a mix of both, some Montessori and some school-readiness activities, so when they go to kindergarten, they’re ahead.”

According to the school’s website, A Step Ahead’s draws students from Ahwatukee, Maricopa, Chandler and Tempe.
