Dear Claudia: I am a resident of Ahwatukee and I used to read your columns in the Ahwatukee Foothills News. I appreciated all the design ideas. I am eager to know, when are you going to start again?

Answer: It’s my pleasure to start writing my Dear Claudia Column starting with this issue. I welcome you and all Ahwatukee Foothills News readers to ask me questions and challenge me to keep up with design trends and the housing market. I have been a resident of Ahwatukee for the last 10 years. I grew up in Tucson and attended the University of Arizona. I completed two years of architecture study, have a bachelor’s degree in social science in interior design and a bachelor’s degree in marketing. For the last 24 years, I have been helping customers with their interior designs. I specialize in new construction and remodeling. I have worked with several home owners, designers, architects, contractors and investors. I have been living my dream in helping people enhance their living spaces.

Dear Claudia: My name is Mary and I would like to remodel my kitchen. My question is where do I start, this is the first time I am involved in a kitchen remodel?

Answer: A kitchen remodel is a great investment for your home. I recommend hiring an experienced professional who will guide you through each step, you do not want to end up with costly mistakes. Start by coming up with a budget, it might be high or low but at least you have a guide. Second, research what kind of ideas and styles you would like (a great website I recommend is www.houzz.com). It is true that it might overwhelm you, but put together an idea book on the website and go by elimination. Third, interview with kitchen remodel experts and find an experienced professional who will be involved in each step of the design process to make sure all the design details are not being overlooked and that will be the one person to go to for any questions.

All the best to you with your kitchen remodel.

Kyrene Akimel A-al Middle School, 2720 E. Liberty Lane, has been part of the Ahwatukee area since 1992, offering each of their Rattlers an enjoyable schooling experience from the morning bell to the ending bell.

According to its website, the name of the school is derived from the Akimel O’odham meaning, “Children of the River.”

The school houses just fewer than 1,100 students.

Principal Mike Deignan said the school offers different sport activities and a learning lab before school starts, which offers students time before school to seek extra help with work completion or tutoring.

“That keeps our students involved with a lot of things, between the sports and the learning lab,” Deignan said.
