Music Maker Workshops

3233 E. Chandler Blvd., Suite 2

While their music academy is by far the most popular summer camp offered at the family-owned Music Maker Workshops in Ahwatukee, a blossoming art camp is now available for interested students.

Co-owner Shelley Yakubow said the new art camp was introduced to Music Maker students last month, and is a more relaxing option for students to take, along with the other music-related camps.

“Lessons are specific to elements of art, and then they get to create,” Yakubow said. “It’s awesome, and soothing.”

With about seven students so far participating, the art camp has room to grow to its more than 160 summer camp attendees and more than 400 regular season students.

Students in the art camp learn about shapes, values, composition and color through painting, paper maché, watercolor, print making and collage work.

Music Maker also offers a music academy, a boot camp for all ages, kinder music classes and a rock band camp.

A Step Ahead Preschool

Maysa Fini, director of A Step Ahead Preschool, poses with students on Wednesday, Aug. 20.

Since 1998, A Step Ahead Preschool in Ahwatukee has been teaching its students through Montessori and traditional teaching methods.

The school houses nearly 60 students from 4-week-olds to 5-year-olds.

Director Maysa Fini said the school focuses on giving its students Montessori and traditional learning experiences to help them transition into the school system.

“Almost all of our graduates end up going to a public school, and the public school is not Montessori,” she said. “For us, we have a mix of both, some Montessori and some school-readiness activities, so when they go to kindergarten, they’re ahead.”

According to the school’s website, A Step Ahead’s draws students from Ahwatukee, Maricopa, Chandler and Tempe.
