The real estate market is improving dramatically according to real estate professionals, and those looking to get involved in the market can learn all about their options at the Arizona Homebuyers Expo this Saturday, April 13.

The expo will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Phoenix Convention Center South, 33 S. 3rd St. in Phoenix. Information on financial resources, pre-approvals for loans, showcases of housing inventory, information on mortgage or renovation loans, a broad range of business contacts and Realtors and lenders familiar with government programs will all be available.

The expo is coming at a good time, according to Ahwatukee broker, Allen Henderson.

“The market is improving dramatically,” Henderson said. “Nice properties that are priced appropriately are selling in days, not weeks or months.”

Henderson said prices are up 15 to 20 percent from last year. He recommends potential homebuyers should look to purchase early in the year because prices tend to drive upward during summer months when competition is high.

The Homebuyers Expo is put on by Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc., a community development corporation that provides services to Arizona to help with economic development, education, housing and social services.

Topics will include buying a first home, loans for veterans, lease to own and rentals, determining needs near retirement, pre-purchase counseling, short sales and home inspections. The expo brings together business and nonprofits to provide all the information a potential homebuyer could need.

This is the second year CPLC has put on an expo. Last year, more than 1,300 people attended. Admission to the event is free. For more information, visit www.azhomeexpo.org or call (602) 257-6749.

Kyrene Akimel A-al Middle school Principal Mike Deignan poses with students in front of the school sign that is advertising their "A" rating.

Kyrene Akimel A-al Middle School has been part of the Ahwatukee area since 1992, offering each of its Rattlers an enjoyable schooling experience from the morning bell to the ending bell.

According to its website, the name of the school is from the Akimel O’odham language and it means, “Children of the River.”

Principal Mike Deignan said the school offers sport activities and a learning lab before school starts, which provides students time before school to seek extra help with work completion or tutoring.

“That keeps our students involved with a lot of things, between the sports and the learning lab,” Deignan said.
