In a recent commentary ("Gullett offers real solutions to problems facing Phoenix," Sept. 14, AFN) Sophie O'Keefe-Zelman did a good job of restating mayoral candidate Wes Gullett's talking points. Although it read like typical campaign rhetoric to me, I thought it was well written. Especially when you consider, according to the bio at the bottom of the commentary, it was written by your typical community member - an "Ahwatukee Foothills native (and) supporter of Wes Gullett."
Except, O'Keefe-Zelman is hardly just that. According to FirstStrategic.com she's paid to write campaign material - by Gullett. She's a senior associate at his lobbying firm FirstStrategic. She is much more than just the "Ahwatukee Foothills native (and) supporter of Wes Gullett" she passed herself off to be. I find it difficult to believe she didn't think readers would find it relevant she disclose Gullett is her boss at a lobbying firm that will likely benefit financially with Gullett as mayor. She seems too smart for that.
