For my office as director for the Maricopa County Special Healthcare District, the election did not turn out exactly the way we hoped, but all is good. I am proud that thousands of Ahwatukee Foothills and East Valley residents voted for me in my three elections. To those good folks, it has always humbled me that I’d be entrusted to represent you in this most important position. Mary Harden ran a very effective and clean campaign. She will be a fine director and will bring a new and important perspective to that board. We wish her the best.
I know that my vote against the bond election cost me, but that is alright too. I’d rather spend the next four years cleaning my garage than to place something poorly planned on the ballot. We’ve now begun a transparent process involving broad community input. The real estate developers and downtown interests that tried to force a $950 million obligation onto the taxpayers can still make their case, but it will be along with all the other stakeholders and citizens who must be heard.
What an honor for 13 years to be part of Maricopa Integrated Health System (MIHS). It’s now a nationally respected, high quality organization. Even with our state’s fiscal challenges we keep the safety net intact to help any of us when there are no other care options.
To serve my constituents, our patients, the dedicated staff and brilliant physicians of MIHS has been one of the great privileges of my life. Thank you.
