I think we can all agree that with debt close to 17 trillion, the United States of America is pretty much bankrupt. If we can all agree on this fact, then please explain to me why President Obama and the United States Congress would even consider giving legal status/citizenship to 11 million unskilled, uneducated illegals.

Of course, we really don’t know how many illegals would receive legal status because we must add another 30 million of their relatives that would also receive legal status. The majority of these people come from south of the border and we know they have very, very large families.

Our Arizona senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake, are pretty much leading the fight on legal status for this group. They tell us that we must bring them “out of the shadows” so they can pay taxes, etc. I don’t think so. As previously indicated, the majority of these people are unskilled laborers with large families. Do you know of any minimum wage earners with large families who pay any income taxes whatsoever?

With legal status, these people would be added to the rolls to receive the income tax credit, in addition to all the other benefits such as food stamps, health care, Social Security, etc. At last count, we already have 47 million people receiving food stamps. Do you honestly believe we should add millions more? Our esteemed Republican senators are more concerned with losing the next election than doing what’s right for this country.

On June 7, Joseph Garcia, director of the ASU Morrison Institute Latino Public Policy Center, had a major article in The Arizona Republic on why Arizona should invest more in Latino education. He tells us that by 2030, 62 percent of Hispanics are forecast to be living in poverty. Do you really think it wise to add these people and further burden our social welfare state? I do believe what Mr. Garcia is telling us is that we should pay more taxes NOW to better educate the Latinos. I don’t agree. Do you?
