Dear Editor

Sen. Russell Pearce's decision allowing state legislators to carry guns in the state capitol while barring guns for ordinary citizens follows the pigs' principles in Orwell's satire, Animal Farm. The farm's original rule, "All animals are equal," required later emendation: "but some animals are more equal than others."

The pigs' policy is also manifest in the National Rifle Association's demands for guns in schools, bars and workplaces, while remaining silent about the Republican National Committee's ban on guns at its conventions and the congressional ban on visitors' guns. The Second Amendment can be flouted to protect the elite, but not the plebes.
