I have been an Ahwatukee resident for the last three years, and previously for 13 years. Recently I had a severe case of a stomach virus that sent me to the Ahwatukee Dignity Health Urgent Care.

Wow, I can’t even describe the pain I was in but it can’t compare to the care of two individuals who attended to me on that day. Nurses Ms. Tommie and Ms. Stephaney treated me as if I was one of their own.

Starting with the intake and in between the bathroom runs, nausea and all of the above these ladies have the genuine “spirit to care” and had I took my last breath I would have encountered angels.

So many times in life we complain and forget to give thanks to people who do jobs that many will not do. We take these jobs for granted and do not give compliments and thanks for the ones that can humble themselves and do for others. This was not just a job for these ladies, this was about the love they have for others and a caring spirit that needed to be acknowledged.

Their warmth, smiles, sensitivity, and the need to comfort was more than any IV or medicine that started the feel better process.

I am still on the road to recovery and putting very little in my stomach, however, felt compelled to let the residents know of Ahwatukee (home of your dreams) we are very fortunate to have Ms. Tommie and Ms. Stephaney taking care of our health needs here in our little town. If you have the unfortunate experience to need emergency care you may encounter another experience of being blessed by their care.

Thank you, Ahwatukee Foothills News for being a voice in our community and allowing me to recognize these two individuals for the “Spirit to Care” acknowledgement. And the next time someone humbles themselves to serve you, look them in the eye and say thank you. There is no amount of money that can be paid to do some of the things these nurses have to do day after day to make us feel better.
