Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) served a search warrant to a home at 16830 S. Yellow Court on June 4. Inside the home detectives found more than 100 marijuana plants and a number of weapons, including an AK-47 and several handguns.

I have never smoked marijuana, however, I agree with Republican Ruben Gallego of Phoenix who stated that weed should be legal in Arizona for economic reasons. He stated that if weed was legalized, costs of prison would be lower.

In 2012, 20,000 people had been arrested for the possession of marijuana. That is 20,000 more people that Arizona has to spend on in jail. In addition, the crime rate would drop significantly since many of the crimes are marijuana related.

Also Rep. Gallego wants to have 5.6 percent sales tax on the drug, half of the funds will go to treatment of alcohol and drug abuse and the other half will go to the state budget.

Marijuana will help Arizona’s economy grow and help to stabilize it, so in 2016 vote to legalize it.
