The Republican senatorial runoff election in Mississippi on June 24 was a great disappointment for conservatives and for anyone who believes in our founding principles.

The GOP establishment told the world of its true intention — that of maintaining control by a shameful and odious few who have forgotten the founding principles of the nation. The few who believe in a party of compromise.

Compromise, compromise, compromise … that’s the GOP establishment’s marching song. A song that will lead only to the mediocrity of our once-great nation.

The crossover vote, though legally correct, was done in such a way as to be morally and ethically reprehensible. When power is the only objective of a political party, that party has lost its political morality, principles and values.

Have we forgotten that principles are everything? On second thought, they’re the only thing.

Small wonder there’s a split in GOP party membership. On the one hand, you have the establishment politicians who offer compromise as the solution to getting along with the liberals of both parties. Usually, a compromise that favors the progressive liberals (socialists). In other words, the Democrats win and the Republicans lose.

Then, on the other hand, you have the fundamentalists who believe in the principles of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution as originally created by the Founding Fathers, fundamentals that enabled the United States of America to lead the world in most aspects of the human condition. Principles that include dependability and honesty as well as justice and faith in God.

Let’s change the GOP marching song to that of fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals.

It’s time to support those who follow the principles of our Founding Fathers. Let’s make the RINOs an extinct species.

Don Kennedy
