Dear Editor:

In response to G. Roberts' letter, "Shared values" (Aug. 27, AFN). Roberts devotes about half of his letter to the editor criticizing President Obama over using the term "shared values" in his speeches with no apparent point other than to imply the president's values are different from his values. I'm still not sure what Roberts' point is. Is this any different from any political speech?

Roberts states "the final recipients of ‘his' TARP fund..." and then goes on to state "let's not forget he signed 'unread' legislation measured by the pound."

This is a classic example of how uninformed many people are today. I assume Roberts gets his information either from Fox News or perhaps a forwarded "conservative" e-mail string with incomplete information. Does Roberts know that it was actually President Bush who signed the TARP law into effect? TARP was also supported by both Obama and John McCain. Unfortunately, Roberts is not alone as according to some polls, 47 percent of Americans believe President Obama signed TARP. It was Bush!

Roberts then somehow switches topics and in his own words digresses into HR3200 (Health care) and claims it was un-read, even though most of the content was deliberated and documented for months prior to its signing, and then finishes with a reference to the movie Mars Attacks.

But in the end, I agree with Roberts, it would be impossible for any candidate to share values with such illogical statements, especially when they include blatantly inaccurate facts as are contained in his letter.

P. Paulson
