As our economy struggles to rebound from the Great Recession, and America works to compete economically in an increasingly globalized world, making education a national priority is more important now than ever. In my 30-plus years in education countless politicians have claimed to be THE education candidate, and most have fallen short. In Congressional District Nine’s Democratic Primary, there is one candidate who is willing to do more than just talk about education: David Schapira.

I have seen a lot of politicians talk about the importance of education to building our economy and giving every kid a chance at the American Dream, but very few offer more than campaign promises. David is different, he understands teaching and learning. As a parent, he knows the future his daughter will have depends on the education she gets from kindergarten through college. As a member of the Arizona State Legislature, David fought against attempts to slash education funding and has sponsored substantive legislation that improves our K-12 schools and makes higher education more affordable. His leadership on education is unmatched among the other candidates in CD9.

We need a leader who will walk the halls of Congress every day and ask, “How can I improve the quality of education for our students?” That leader is David Schapira. I hope that you will join me in the Aug. 28 Democratic Primary.
