I am a Boy Scout in Troop 16 and I would like to express my concerns about our government cutting school funding. I also sent a letter to Sen. John McCain because I did not want him to vote yes to the proposed cut in education funding by 20 percent. I did not receive any response from the senator, but I think it is a very bad idea to reduce spending on education.

My mom says that my school years are shaping me to be a responsible adult. She asked me to think about some of my schoolmates and how I would feel if they had important government positions that would make decisions that would affect my life. It is really scary to think that someone who spends all his lunchtimes in detention helping direct the country I live in.

I cannot believe that our government wants less educated Americans to lead this country into the future. That is what is going to happen if we keep cutting school funding. My teachers have said most high school students are not ready for college and everything has been dumbed down so more kids can graduate high school. My mom said that only a college degree will help you get a good job.

If our politicians went to college, they must understand the importance of a good education. Since they had their chance of getting a good education, why can’t they give us a chance and think of other areas to cut?
