I am writing out my check for property taxes. Many of you do not see the taxes and overrides since you pay them with your house payment. This year, the amount for the Kyrene override went up 3.1 percent over last year. The override amounts are actually more than the elementary bond rates.

Tempe Union High School District (TUHSD) overrides went up 8.7 percent over last year. The override is twice as much as the TUHSD bonds.

Why are our school districts not able to stay within their budgets? Sixty percent of my taxes go to schools. This is outrageous.

In the ’60s the Ramones sang a song called, “I’d love to save the world.” One verse goes: “Tax the rich, feed the poor, till there are no rich no more.” The school districts are doing their best to make that happen.

Remember, an override is an additional TAX!
