Although the tragic accident that claimed the life of Sally Meyerhoff (March 8) was unfortunate it may open the eyes of cyclists around the Valley.

Cyclists need to obey the traffic laws.

I continually see cyclists split lanes, ride parallel, dart through intersections and traffic with disregard to the traffic laws and safety.

Local law enforcement officials need to start enforcing the laws that prohibit this behavior.

The media needs to be involved in this, too, by informing the cyclists and motorists of the dangers that lurk on our roadways, as well as the laws that are in place to help keep everyone safe.

I, for one, have had several incidents involving Ahwatukee cyclists, which could have become tragic.

So, please, pay attention and obey the traffic laws. They are in place for all of our safety.
