Dear Editor: I am writing in regard to the article of Friday, Jan. 18, titled, "Man found guilty of '78 co-ed rape, murder case." Can we please get rid of the term "co-ed" to refer to a female university student? It suggests that having female students on campus is unusual and noteworthy. It's been a long time, 30 or 40 years, since this was true at most U.S. colleges and universities. It's insulting to use it now, because it suggests that female students are some kind of novelty act rather than being just normal students. I understand that in 1978, she may have been referred to in the press as a "co-ed." But today, we should just call her a "student." Rebecca Barry
