With Jarek Hilgers missing the game completely and Isaiah Kilby sustaining an iffy hamstring in the first half against Westwood, Desert Vista was looking thin at tailback so they went big.

“We call it our heavy package,” Thunder coach Dan Hinds said. “I didn’t know that until the third quarter when Coach T(errance Roberts) came to me and said they were going with the ‘heavy package.’ ”

That meant fullback Zach Gonzalez moved to tailback and Cullen VanGosen at fullback. It led to two touchdown drives – one from each - to put the game out of reach.

“We were looking pretty thin and made the necessary adjustments,” Hinds said.

Bobby Delgado has also been nursing a foot injury, but Hinds is expecting everyone back healthy in the next couple of weeks.
