C.J. Cron had his second professional season come to an end when the Los Angeles Angels announced that their 2011 first-round pick will undergo surgery on the labrum in his right shoulder.

He had been playing with the injury since his senior year in college with Utah.

Cron, a Mountain Pointe graduate, had his rookie professional season end early in 2011 because of a dislocated knee cap.

Before getting shutdown Cron, 22, was tearing up the Class A pitching for the Inland Empire 66ers.

In 129 games, Cron batted .293 with 27 homers, 123 RBI and a .516 slugging percentage. It was a nice follow up year after hitting .308 with 13 home runs and 41 RBIs in 34 games.

By having surgery now, Cron should be good to go by spring training as recovery time is estimated between eight and 12 weeks.
