Thunder return from camp feeling good

Dan Hinds drove back from Snowflake on Saturday with a clear mind.

He believes his Desert Vista football team came back to Ahwatukee from their four-day stay at the Camp of Champions more adhesive and on the same page then before they left.

Of course no coach is going to say it was a complete waste of time and they should have never gone.

So you have to pump the breaks a little on his sentiments, but at the same time Hinds has always been genuine. If something is off he’ll let you know.

Hinds said the two most important things they do is the big brother program and senior night.

The big brother aspect has the freshmen get matched up with a seniors (an some juniors) for the trip. They attended meetings together, get indoctrinated into the Thunder way and just made to feel comfortable.

The second is senior night as the group breaks away from the rest of the classes for a night on their own.

“It’s a chance for them to reflect on what they’ve done over the years, dating back to their SEV (Pop Warner) days,” Hinds said. “Eventually, the conversation turns to what little time they have left and how they are going to make the most of it.

“It’s going to be a good group similar to the senior classes we’ve had in recent years.”

If that’s the case then the Thunder, which begins mandatory practice on Monday, will not have to worry about senior leadership as the last two seasons have been driven by their desire to leave a legacy behind.
