The Desert Vista football team had a chance to win its 10th straight game last week.

Of course, the Thunder came up short in the loss to Mountain Pointe.

It made for an interesting few days of practice to start the week considering the Thunder hadn’t had to come in on Saturday morning or Monday afternoon after a defeat in nearly a season’s schedule worth of games.

“We’ve had great practices,” Thunder senior linemen Dylan Fischer said. “We had to get it out of our system and we’ve done a good job,”

Thunder coach Dan Hinds agreed.

“We were very frustrated and disappointed,” he said. “We felt like we had a couple of chances to win it and didn’t come through. We think the (mistakes) are all things we can correct. We are dealing with great kids and coaches and I have no doubt we can make those corrections and get back on track.”

The Thunder travel to Westwood, which has lost two straight after opening the year with a win over Dobson, with thoughts of playing a complete game.

“We need to get back out there and play like we can,” senior quarterback Matt Young said. “Normally we go to Native (New Yorker) after the game and it wasn’t the same. We lost to our inner-city rival, but we came back with the right attitude and moved on pretty quick.”
