It appears the Sunnyside wrestling program took just a one-year hiatus.

After 14 straight team championships and having never finished lower than third in the history of the Arizona state tournament, Sunnyside had a terrible year last season by finishing fourth in Division I.

Too may people got gratification out of it.

Anyway. the Blue Devils are back this year.

Sunnyside took care of the field at Flowing Wells to win easily.

It was the third straight tournament win against some of the East Valley's best competition after winnning the McClintock Invite in December and the Peoria Invite a few weeks ago.

At Flowing Wells some of the top teams were without their top wrestler - Mountain View's Seth Monty and Chandler's Dalton Brady - but I don't think it would have made that much of a difference.

Mountain View was a distant second and Chandler was sixth.

It looks like Sunnyside, which had six finalists at Flowing Wells, is on a mission to pull its name out of the mud after finishing a lousy fourth.

The Blue Devils have another test on Wednesday when they'll face Division II defending champion Ironwood Ridge, who finished fourth at Flowing Wells despite missing four regulars from its lineup, on Wednesday in a dual meet.
