Joe Mather is back in Arizona.

Unfortunately, he is without an organization after being released by the Phillies on March 9.

The Mountain Pointe All-American is back in Ahwatukee, according to his dad, waiting to receive a call from a perspective organization.

Mather appeared in eight Grapefruit League games for the club and was in camp on a minor-league contract after spending the 2012 season with the Cubs (.209 average in 103 games).

Mather, 30, had a great spring a year ago with the Cubs and it led to his first career opening day roster.

His career might be coming to a crossroads as teams are setting their rosters now in anticipation for the April 1 opening day.

It might take injuries at the minor league level for Mather to get another contract offer.

However it plays out, Mather will forever be in the major league baseball player register.

It will read: 229 games, 493 career at bats, 49 runs, 109 hits, 26 doubles, 14 home runs, seven stolen bases and a .219 batting average.
