Desert Vista has its football scrimmage at Brophy Prep on Thursday. It was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but the AIA made the date change after realizing Brophy didn't have the mandatory 10 days of practice.
“It is hard to believe it is here already,” Desert Vista coach Dan Hinds said. “It was important that we had a good camp (in Eagar) and we did. We knew we had stuff to do and the players embraced that.
“There were no hang ups at camp with our schemes and we got a lot done.”
Mountain Pointe was in Eagar last week as well and coach Norris Vaughan was pleased with what was accomplished.
The Pride didn’t have a scrimmage matchup until recently will play at Centennial on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
It is the second year in a row that Mountain Pointe struggled to find a scrimmage opponent as Vaughan settled for North late last summer.
Not sure what the deal is.
My guess is because Mountain Pointe plays a physical style a lot of coaches do not like to expose their players to that type of play one week into camp.
It can lead to injuries and even stunt their growth if they get manhandled physically. It is one thing to lose; it is another to be pushed around.
I have no clue if that truly plays into it or not, but it wouldn’t be surprising if some coaches felt that way.
Anyway, Vaughan has to be pleased that he finally knows who he is playing.
