Desert Vista was awarded one of the Arizona Interscholastic Association's highest honors in being named the the winner of the Director Cup.

The Directors Cup signifies that The Thunder have reached the pinnacle of excellence in athletics, scholastics, activities, service, community and character-based initiatives.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association presents the award to one high school each year.

The selection committee reviews all eligible nominations, based on:

* Creative implementation of the Pursuing Victory With Honor initiative, advancing the six pillars of character — trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship in everyday campus life

* Game management, sportsmanlike conduct and activity participation

* Percentage of students participating in AIA-sanctioned activities and the impact those students had on the school's climate
