As spring football cranks up a week from today, here are two tidbits of news that needed to be shared.

The first one is a doozy as Mountain Pointe junior Kyle Faunce and his family found out on Tuesday that they are moving back to Indiana.

Faunce's father, Jay, got a job back in their home state and Kyle and his sophomore brother, Evan, will attend Warren Central in Indianapolis. The family moved to Arizona after he played his freshman season at Cathedral.

"I have two families and I would do anything for either one of them," Faunce said. "But in this case one comes before the other."

His departure leaves a big hole for the Pride as they head into the spring with no QBs with much varsity experience.

Junior Jacub Lough was the backup last season, but attempted less than 10 passes as Faunce had a record-breaking season and helped Mountain Pointe get to the state semifinals.

Coach Norris Vaughan talked about freshman Jalen Brown possibly playing QB one day, but that was expected to come after Faunce graduated next year.

Look for an expanded story this Friday in the print edition.

The other news is the Arizona Interscholastic Association is trying to aid Desert Vista in finding a 10th opponent by allowing any possible partner to schedule an 11th game, according to DV athletic director T.J. Snyder.

Desert Vista has struggled with finding the required two "freedom" games and dipped into Division III by scheduling a game with Scottsdale Saguaro, which doesn't count as much in power points because playing a team that is two divisions lower is doesn't garner as many points.
