The Desert Vista girls basketball team is at it again.

Now can the Thunder finish like they did in 2009 when they won their division at Nike Tournament of Champions?

Desert Vista advanced to the Gray Division finals after Wednesday's 61-55 win over The Bishop's School out of La Jolla, Calif.

The championship game is Thursday at noon against Corona Centennial (8-0) at Hamilton High.

The Thunder trailed 16-6 after the first quarter when Bishop's came out with a trap and put Desert Vista in a uncomfortable position.

"We really had not seen it since a scrimmage against Dobson," coach Rachel Proudfoot said. "Last year's team probably would not have bounced back but we've matured and we showed it in this game."

The Thunder owned the third quarter, going on a 25-9 run, to grab the lead for good.

Jaymee Brugman led the team with 25 points while Kylie Butler backed her with 13 including a couple of key layups in the final minutes.

Kristine Anigwe had 12 points and Emily Wolph had 10.

The Thunder opened the tournament Monday with a 54-18 win over Horizon Christian Academy (Calif.) and followed it up with a 52-38 win over Cleveland on Tuesday.

Overall, Desert Vista has won nine in a row after opening the season with loses against Pinnacle and Highland.
