Mountain Pointe senior linebacker Izzy Marshall made up his mind for now about his college plans next fall.
He verbally committed to Arizona State on Friday, first reported by Scout.com.
"It is a lot of stress of my shoulders," he said after Friday's win over Gilbert Highland. "It is just a verbal committment and you never know what is going to happen down the road. I hope and pray it follows through.
"If not the Lord will send me in the right direction."
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Marshall is ranked as the state's top linebacker by scout.com despite missing his sophomore year because of a knee injury and beginning last season as a safety.
Marshall is still raw and recruiters are in love with his projections of what kind of player he can grow into over the next five years.
He said the decision was a simple case of fitting in.
"I just felt really comfortable and nothing negative," Marshall said. "I felt good when I was there for 7-on-7, playing on the field and felt like I was at home wearing the same colors."
The official signing date is in February.
