The individual portion of the state tennis tournament might be over for the area, but the Desert Vista girls made sure it wasn't completely over.

The Thunder knocked off No. 3 Hamilton on Wednesday's first round of the Division I team state tournament.

Desert Vista coach Angel Singer said she was comfortable playing anyone other than top-seeded Xavier.

The Thunder, seeded 14th, travels to No. 6 Red Mountain on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

They haven't faced each other this season.

A win would mean their second appearance in the semifinals in three years and a possible matchup with Chaparral, the second seed.

Desert Vista beat Chaparral 5-4 earlier this season.
