Tennis season alive and well

The individual portion of the state tennis tournament might be over for the area, but the Desert Vista girls made sure it wasn't completely over.

The Thunder knocked off No. 3 Hamilton on Wednesday's first round of the Division I team state tournament.

Desert Vista coach Angel Singer said she was comfortable playing anyone other than top-seeded Xavier.

The Thunder, seeded 14th, travels to No. 6 Red Mountain on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

They haven't faced each other this season.

A win would mean their second appearance in the semifinals in three years and a possible matchup with Chaparral, the second seed.

Desert Vista beat Chaparral 5-4 earlier this season.
