Combine last year's run to the Class 5A Division I state finals, a big-time recruit in Kevin Cron with the majority of the team returning intact and the Mountain Pointe baseball team is set up for a special season.

Just ask Baseball America.

The highly-respected national magazine's preseason top 50 national rankings are out and the Pride is pegged as the sixth best team in the country.

"It's very exciting," Pride coach Brandon Buck said by email.

The Pride went 21-12 last season and have the core of that team back with Cron, who hit 25 home runs last season and has signed with Texas Christian, leading the way.

The team started the season with an 8-3 win over Scottsdale Chaparral on Wednesday.

The only other ranked Arizona squad is Chandler Hamilton, which began the year at No. 12.
