The Desert Vista hot streak continued last week in the Ahwatukee rivalry against Mountain Pointe.

The baseball team swept a pair of games from the Pride, you know the defending state champions.

It has been a school year of dominance for the Thunder as they won in football, swept the series in boys and girls basketball and now in baseball.

On the diamond the Thunder won 4-1 at Mountain Pointe on March 26 and then 9-3 at home on March 29.

Luke Leftwich picked up the victory in the first game with Tyler Viza getting the save as Colby Woodmanse, Shane Slattery and Drew Cutchall drove in runs.

In the second game, the bats came alive as Hunter Rodriguez, Zach Steigerwald and Austin Hicks went deep. With the game tied at 3 through four innings, Desert Vista showed a killer instinct that the Thunder seemed to lack in previous years as they piled on runs over the final innings for the win.

Connor Kelly picked up the win with a complete game three-hitter.

The good week has Desert Vista (10-11 overall, 7-4) sitting in a comfortable spot in the power rankings as the season moves into the final month of the season.

Desert Vista was 14th in the power rankings through Tuesday's action with some breathing room as the postseason field is expanded to 24 this year. For what it is worth, Mountain Pointe was 30th at 5-4 in power rankings.

If the Thunder can continue to build off it they won’t be sweating it out in the final day about whether or not they get into the postseason or not.
