Since the announcement of the Brian Fleming’s resignation, the Mountain Pointe administration has been bombarded with inquiries about the boys basketball coaching position.

Some formal, some informal.

Arizona State head coach Herb Sendek reached out for one of 70-plus candidates and they were even contacted by a professional coach in Belgium, according to principal Bruce Kipper.

The plan is to start the interview process on March 29 by dwindling down the list down to about top eight candidates.

And it will not be an easy process to narrow it a reasonable number before then.

Mountain Pointe has heard from top in-state current head coaches to current high school head coaches in Chicago, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, California, Colorado, Montana, and Utah. There have been fielding several calls from current college assistant coaches and graduate assistants.

In other words, athletic director Ian Moses and Kipper have a difficult decision ahead of them in the coming weeks.
