The Desert Vista boys volleyball team played well in California over spring break.

They finished They finished 2-3 and 8th overall out of 43 teams at the La Jolla Beach City Invite.

The team is going through a major transition after losing so many  starters from last season's state semifinalist squad.

This year's leading hitter - Sam Mathers - was last year's libero.

So placing at a high quality tournament will only do the Thunder some good.

But maybe not as much as what they did in the down time.

The group went surfing. I don't know the details yet. Not sure how many had experience or how many actually got up this time around.

All I know is that had to be an absolute blast. Something than can bring a team together. I guess only time will tell.
