Mountain Pointe junior Travonn White set the school record in the long jump at the Sun Angel Classic over the weekend and did so with the previous holder in attendance.
That would be one Will Claye, you know the 2012 Olympic Games favorite in the very same event.
Claye was in town, and on campus last week, to run in the 100 meter dash in the Sun Angel to keep his legs strong.
He got to witness White’s effort of 24 feet and 10 inches that surpassed his mark of 24-03, a distance that White tied earlier in the year at the Chandler Rotary.
“That meant a lot to me,” White said. “I’ve had some talks with him and we are pretty competitive with each other. It was cool doing it with Will there.”
Look for a full-length feature on White in Friday’s edition of the AFN.
