Mountain Pointe football has done a lot of winning since Norris Vaughan took over the program.

It continued Monday.

A 7-on-7 tournament in the first week of June is rather insignificant, but considering the new faces wearing the Pride colors these days the fact the Mountain Pointe won the Arizona State tourney on Monday is promising.

The Pride beat Basha in the finals in a 14-team field that included Hamilton, Sandra Day O'Connor, Mesa Mountain View, Desert Edge and Chaparral.

The Pride lost its top three wide receivers and a two-year starting quarterback.

It didn't seem to matter. The Pride also won the Big Man competition as well.

The next generation appears ready to go.

"They've been working hard," Pride coach Norris Vaughan said from Las Vegas. "We will go up to Northern Arizona next and keep it going until giving them a break the first two weeks of July."
