I got a chance to talk to Olympian Will Claye this weekend and found out some of his family lives in London.

And the Mountain Pointe product will meet them for the first time when he arrives for the Games next week.

Not a bad place to have a family reunion.

His mother, Saffie Claye, is from Africa and she moved to London with her family and some of her siblings are still there.

“A lot of the pressure of dealing with family and making sure they have a place to stay is off me because they were already there,” Claye said. “(Other athletes) are dealing with a lot of that. I just have to worry about my mom and brother.

“Just about everyone else is already there.”

Will Claye has been training in Las Vegas and San Diego to great ready for the Games, which being with the Opening Ceremonies on July 27. His events – the long jump and the triple jump – don’t get underway until the first week of August so he will have a few days to get adjusted to the time change and amp up his training once he gets settled.

Look for an expanded story in the AFN on his rise to becoming an Olympian as it gets closer to the Opening Ceremonies.
