While A.J. Williamson's team was in the south end zone at the end of Monday's practice, he was off to the side at the 50-yard line nursing a minor injury.

Before Mountain Pointe coach Norris Vaughan could finish his talk with the Pride, Williamson was doing whatever he could to make it down to the team, hopping on one foot, and he wasn't just trying to catch Vaughan's final words.

He was bringing bottles of water to his teammates.

Is it no wonder that the former Desert Vista starter has been a team captain for the Pride in its first two games despite being with the program for a short period of time.

"He is a classy and standup individual," Vaughan said. "He hasn't been here long, but he has made his mark because he has character. That's what we are trying to develop - leadership and it takes time to grow."

Williamson didn't transfer until after the school, meaning he didn't participate in spring practice with Mountain Pointe, and yet he made a big enough impression to get the call as captain.

"He works hard and brings it all of the time," Mountain Pointe senior linemen R.J. Hollis said. "A.J. found his place on this team."
