The start to the football season has been about as good it gets for Mountain Pointe.

Now the real lifting starts for the Pride.

Expectations can be heavy.

And now that Pride knocked off Hamilton and Desert Vista the players are about to step on the field under new conditions – the state’s top-ranked team.

“That’s the next thing we have to learn,” Pride coach Norris Vaughan said. “We are on a lofty perch and we have to learn how to play that way. No one has had to play that way in this division the last four years expect for Hamilton.

“We will see if we can handle it.”

It starts with a 3½ hour trip to Sierra Vista to take on 2-1 Buena, which seems to have an ever changing roster because a lot of a nearby Fort Huachuca Army base.

“They have a new coach and they are much better,” Vaughan said. “We beat them pretty handily last year (69-0) so it will be a good test on how focused our players are because you can’t give away anything.

“We won a big game last week, but so what. This is a new week, new opponent.”
