The Desert Vista club hockey team had a pretty smooth ride all year long, losing just four times in 20 regular season games and outscoring opponents by 57 goals.
Then in the championship game, the Thunder faced a rare deficit.
Shadow Ridge jumped on Desert Vista with the first goal in the Division III championship game.
It didn’t last long as the division’s highest-scoring team rifled back with three straight goals on the way to a 3-2 win.
Will Cooley, David Condon and Andrew Deros did the damage offensively, while goalie Macy Eide and the defense held up against the Shadow Ridge attack even when it pulled the goalie in a 6-on-3 attempt, while DV had two players in the penalty box.
Eide, who moved in from Minnesota to play on the boys’ team at DV, was given the MVP award.
The squad, which finished the year 15-3-4, has a roster that returns almost in its entirety next season.
