Robbie Mathers is back to his winning ways.

The former Desert Vista three-time state champion hasn’t competed much over the last couple of years after taking some time to live at the Olympic Training Center and transition into the college level.

He made an impression recently when he earned All-American status at the University Nationals Freestyle Wrestling Tournament, which was held in Akron, Ohio on May 24 and 25.

The Missouri sophomore finished seventh in the 63 KG weight class that included 14 former All-Americans in the 80-man bracket.

Mathers won his first three matches, lost to 12-11 Missouri teammate Lavion Mays before coming back to beat two All-Americans the second day.

In his placement match, he toed the line against Mays again and this time came away with an 11-0 technical fall to finish in seventh place.
