As some of you have probably noticed, I am not much of a basketball guy.

It’s just not a sport that I enjoy, but there is an event this weekend that should be pretty cool as the Tempe Union High School Education Foundation is putting on fundraising tournament that involves the local basketball coaches, administrators and some of the former players squaring off to raise money.

It is $5 at the door with all proceeds going to all Tempe Union High Schools. There will be food and drinks during the event as well.

The tournament, which starts at noon on Saturday at Corona del Sol, is being billed as friendly competition between schools, with coaches, teachers and staff on the teams.

Oh, ok.

I can already envision Mountain Pointe principal Bruce Kipper going for a rebound against Desert Vista principal Anna Battle and the latter fighting like crazy to get after it.

Now, I have no idea if they are actually playing but how fun would that be. Others probably could see the same scenario playing out so that’s probably why they are on opposite sides of the bracket.

Anyway, here is the schedule for the tournament.

Bracket 1

Corona vs. Compadre/District, noon

Desert Vista vs. McClintock, 12:15 p.m.

Winners of these games play, 2 p.m.

Bracket 2

Mountain Ponte vs. Marcos, 1 p.m.

Tempe Police vs. Tempe High, 1:15 p.m.

Winners play, 2:30 p.m.

Finals at 3:30 p.m.
