Desert Vista linebacker Mike Arredondo found a home.
The unquestioned leader of the Thunder committed to Northern Arizona on Sunday when he called Lumberjacks coach Jerome Souers to give the news.
"I felt like I fit there and really liked a bunch of guys that I either knew directly or indirectly (by playing against them)," Arredondo said. "I couldn't be happier right now."
In back-to-back weekends, Arredondo visited NAU and New Mexico. He left Albuquerque without an offer, being told it would come later this week.
It was enough to swing the decision in favor of the Lumberjacks.
Arredondo led the Thunder to the Division I title as a fullback and linebacker. His original idea was to play at major college program, but he knows deep down that going to NAU, which plays in the Football Championship Subdivision, won't change his approach.
"I told my parents that I am going to do what I do wherever I go," he said. "I'm excited."
